Year End Thoughts
We are at that liminal space of the end of the year where we are reflecting on how the year has treated us while planning and reviewing for the upcoming year. This is the time to release what we are carrying so that we can make space for what we need in this New Year.
We spent most of the month, at least during Sagittarius season, cleaning our homes, making way for the blessings to come. Releasing what no longer works for us physically. As the Winter Solstice and Capricorn season began, we are now working through our shadows to integrate them into the light.
There’s been a lot of online talk about rebranding for 2026, or 13 wishes, which to me are just variations of the New Year’s Resolutions chat of the past. Right now is really a time of reflection. I work my brujeria in seasons. Winter Solstice through the Spring Equinox is all about reflection. Shadow work. Banishing and cleansing. Just like the trees that right now may look dormant, they are growing stronger roots, so that when the wind blows the tree can stay firmly planted on the ground. The roots encourage the tree to get larger. Similarly, we should be working on growing our own roots so that if gusts of wind may come (due to trial and tribulations) it doesn’t immediately make us fold.
Take a look at this year, what were your goals this year? What were your intentions? Did you reach your goals? Why or why not? Journal it out. What kept you from reaching your goals? What behaviors or triggers do you need to work through so that you can reach your goals this year?
On the flip side, those goals that you did not make this year, are you pivoting or are you taking them with you into the new year? What are some ways you can make some different decisions so you can reach those goals?
As I mentioned, this time is a moment of reflection, of shadow work, of pointing out the ways we need to improve in the coming year. Writing our intentions, our wishes, our goals, is great but we shouldn’t be taking much action towards those goals or wishes until the equinox. Where we are aligned with the Earth and have the support of Aries season to get a great jump start. Right now in Capricorn season, we are in CEO energy. You are looking at the big picture. Review your journal entries for the past year, your photos, your social media posts. What was the vibe? What do you want to change for 2026?
I’m trying to get outside more. I’d like to go to more events. I went to a couple sound healing events this year that I enjoyed. Maybe take up Pilates again at the local rec center. There are some in person social groups that I’m thinking of joining. I also want to learn more. I’m taking a tarot class just to deepen my knowledge in divination, I’ve joined a mediumship class to develop in that way more. Once the spring hits I will return to an astrology group I used to go to monthly.
I’m craving community and I’m also creating my own communities. Errede Book Club has been amazing, we are chatting through our second book currently. I’m thinking of ways to bring more community and sisterhood into IG through a channel. I will keep you posted as I flesh that out.
2025 has helped me release the hold on consumerism. This time last year I was watching Neflix documentaries and reading books around the ways that consumerism affects us all. It was a game changer. I started Project Pan this year, which was to use all my beauty and skincare products. Along with a No Buy year and boycotting stores that go against our interests, not only was I able to save some cash, but declutter the mess that I had. And really figured out what I liked to use and what I didn’t. I started to crochet again, almost done making a blanket for my little one. It helped keep me from doom scrolling. I hope to continue a lot of these new habits into the New Year while also infusing joy in general in my life.
The coming days will be filled with brujeria, doing banishing and cleansing work for me, my home and my family. So that we can do sweetening work in time for the New Year. I know this year has been a shit show for a lot of us, but we have made it through! Just a few days left. And if you don’t have the energy to do all the brujeria right now, you also have the Chinese New Year and Spring Equinox. Especially for Spring cleaning, which I still do that time of year along with December. I leave you with lyrics from Bad Bunny’s Bendiciones:
Estoy aquí porque Dios tuvo planes conmigo
Gracias a ustedes y a los míos, soy agradecido
Tumbarme a mí, mis enemigo’ no han podido
Yo estoy bendeci’o
Bendiciones pa to el mundo. Chavo pa to el mundo.
