Spiritual Declutter is Back!
It’s been a while, burnout is real! But I’ve decided in preparation for the new year, I will be bringing back our spiritual declutter, but with a twist. Last year we had a daily prompt with a spiritual significance of each prompt. This year I will be making it a bit easier, with weekly prompts and ideas, understanding that we are up to the limit between work, kids, bills and the political environment we have been thrown into this year. But through it all we still deserve to thrive and receive good things.
Jupiter in Cancer with Saturn in Pisces is showing that we need to get our spiritual ducks in a row. Jupiter brings blessings of abundance and expansion, and in Cancer it’s saying that the expansion and blessings are in the home. Saturn in Pisces is saying that we need structures around our spiritual practices. So honoring both transits, we are going to be cleaning and prepping for this new year.
You might say that the new year really begins during Aries season. Some might say the new year begins during their solar return. Or even during the season of their rising. And you might all be right. I like to use the energy of the end of the year to get rid of the things that are no longer in alignment so that I can welcome in the new year with new energy. Whether or not you think the Gregorian calendar is correct, there’s definitely an energetic vibe with the collective during the new year, and this is something that happens globally. Tap into that energy to get some extra help during this end of year cleansing and rituals.
As you may know, ancestor work is the foundation of my spiritual practice. As a child of the Caribbean and servidora de misterios, my magic is rooted in that work.
Cleaning has always been a spiritual practice for me. I try to align what I do around my home with the astrological transits or daily transits. This year my prompts will be all about using the days of the week to align with smaller daily tasks. And get your babies involved as well! Let’s clear that generational trauma of having to do things ourselves. That can create so much anger and resentment. Even if they don’t get it right the first time, they eventually will. Just like potty training! When I’m cleaning I always ask my children for help, even if it’s just to put something away so that I can sweep or mop there.
Speaking of sweeping and mopping, my mother taught me to always sweep from the farthest corner of the house, making my way to the front door. Sweeping is essentially clearing energy and we clear from back to front. Same with mopping. If you’re mopping and/or using a cleansing floor wash, we mop from back to front. The only time we mop from the front door back is so that we can invite something in. Any type of sweetening floor wash like abundance, money, love, etc, will start at the front door and work your way back.
Sometimes mopping my house can take a lot out of me. I don’t live in a mansion by any means, it’s more spiritually I get tapped out. This is because our homes can really hold on to energy and energy can get stuck. Our mothers and grandmothers used to have a scarf they’d wear around their crown while cleaning. I suggest you find a scarf, bandana or hat to use this month just for this purpose. Those of us already suffering from burnout and the exhaustion that can come with it can benefit from this. Also turning up your favorite playlist won’t hurt!
Generally our prompts will be like this:
Mondays: Around ancestors and intuition
Tuesdays: Drive and ambition
Wednesdays: Communication (paperwork, books, electronics)
Thursdays: Money, abundance
Fridays: Beauty (clothing, bathrooms, makeup)
Saturdays: Ritual. Mopping, sweeping, deep cleaning one area of your home.
Sundays: Reset days. Take 30 min to do a small task.
Have a plan for donations. I tend to throw things right in a garbage bag and when it’s full I throw it in the back of my car. This is also a great task to ask your children to help you with if they can!
Hope you will join me over on Threads!
